After 7260 seconds, it is now 9:11 am, my mother enters the room. She is crying. Why the hell is she crying, since I am not dead this sickness seems to be a temporary one. But on the other hand I know my mother, who can get quite emotional from time to time. So I attempt to smile and say a couple encouraging words, but obviously again, nothing happens. You could say that I am really getting pissed off by now, but again I have to resign because there is nothing I can do. My mother walks over to my bed, lifts my head, replaces the cushion, and carefully lets my head drop back down. Then she leans over and kisses my cheek. God damn it! On the one hand I am thankful for the rearranged cushion, which makes this whole act of lying a lot more comfortable, on the other hand I hate it when she kisses me. She is still crying. “Why did you have to do it,” she asks me. I have heard her lectures about smoking so many a time, have told her even more often that it was my decision to make, that I really don’t need this right now. Yet she repeats her question before she sits down on one of the chairs beside my bed. She sits there for hours watching me, and I lie for hours, thinking and once in a while glancing at her. At 12 o clock she finally gets up, needing to make my younger brother lunch at home soon and afterwards to look after the horse, but she will be back as she tells me, and then leaves the room. I am glad that she came by to visit and want to smile and say goodbye, but nothing comes out.
